Eric Clapton – a guitarist, in the fewest words. A man of many axes across his enduring career, this very limited Gibson Custom Shop release sets out to breathe new life into one of his most historic guitars – a 1958 Les Paul Custom.
In the midst of an already prolific career, Clapton acquired a 1958 Les Paul Custom before embarking on a couple tours, recording Cream's Disraeli Gears, and eventually gifting it to fellow guitar legend Albert Lee. This guitar, a veritable piece of rock history, today receives a striking revival through a painstaking Gibson Custom Shop recreation.
The Gibson Custom Shop Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom is a stunningly accurate replica of Clapton's original guitar. Employing new 3D scanning technology and ultra-precise Gibson Custom Murphy Lab finish aging, this guitar is an unbelievably replicated creation. Everything on the model is replicated directly from Clapton's original including specific finish aging wear to its lived-in sonic character.
A one-piece, ultra-lightweight, all-mahogany body makes up the body alongside a mahogany neck in a Medium "C" shape profile. Replicating the original's body in exacting fashion, the physical experience of the Gibson Custom Shop creation is unbelievably faithful. The Gibson Custom Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom features an ebony fingerboard, gold hardware, body and headstock binding, and unpotted Custombucker pickups to ensure its authenticity visually, tangibly, and audibly.
The Custom Shop creation includes a number of one-of-a-kind accessories including a custom Duck Brothers-inspired hardshell case, a second pickguard signed by both Clapton and Lee, a certificate of authenticity booklet, and a Gibson Custom switch plate medallion, among a few others. Limited to one hundred and fifty pieces worldwide, the Gibson Custom Shop Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom is handcrafted by Gibson Custom luthiers in Nashville, Tennessee.
