The D18 Modern Deluxe is the classic Martin mahogany back and sides Dreadnought with a next-level feature package hidden in the details. While the "next level" terminology may sound cliché to some, the D18 Modern Deluxe is certainly that, with its impressions truly made in person.

Having spent over a year and a half in development, the D18 Modern Deluxe is loaded with custom-shop inspired modern features, only furthering the sonic excellence and playability of their flagship guitar. 

The D18 Modern Deluxe begins with a Sitka Spruce Top with Martin's VTS (Vintage Tone System) treatment process. This process does to the look and sound of a new top as what many years of natural aging would do. This is what players refer to as a "broken in" guitar. The VTS Sitka top is reinforced via forward shifted scalloped Adirondack spruce "X" bracing.

The Modern Deluxe D18's neck receives a Vintage Deluxe profile with High Performance Taper, satin finish, and Ebony fingerboard. Featured exclusively on the Modern Deluxe fretboard is what appears to be a gold fretwire, but is in fact a nickel/copper alloy tested stronger than a standard Martin fret. The copper alloy adds a gold hue, which is a perfect match to its gold Waverly open gear tuners.

Yes, that's correct! The D18 Modern Deluxe receives factory standard Waverly tuners, the long-standing favorite tuning machine among vintage guitar enthusiasts.

Another feature of exceptional note on the D18 Modern Deluxe is in its bridge pins. Made in collaboration with Liquidmetal, this guitar's bridge pins feature a titanium alloy, which was tested at Martin to boost the volume of the D18 around 3-5 dB. A red dot insignia visually denotes a Liquidmetal bridge pin from a standard or non-Liquidmetal pin.

The D18 Modern Deluxe also employs a new feature in a Torrefied Adirondack Spruce bridge plate with Carbon Fiber reinforcement on either side. This method adds a hint of extra brightness and incredible stability to the rich tonal properties of Adirondack Spruce.

A final unique feature on the D18 Modern Deluxe is Rosewood binding with a Herringbone detail. Wood binding choices vary on different Modern Deluxe models, and Rosewood is the exclusive choice for 18-series guitars in this lineup.
