Taylor Guitars has released a series of entries to their Grand Theater body style line. This new group of Grand Theaters gives 2022 a warm welcome.
Introduced in the fall of 2020, Taylor’s Grand Theater Series body shape quickly made waves among Taylor fans and acoustic guitar players across the board. The Grand Theater made its initial introduction with new features such as its specially scaled body shape and newly developed Taylor C-Class bracing. An innovative development, the Grand Theater’s scaled-down body was designed to capture the handiness of Taylor’s GS Mini and projection of Taylor’s Grand Concert body shapes. Sitting in between these two sizes, the Grand Theater makes for an excellent guitar to easily pick up and play for any setting. Designed specifically for the Grand Theater, Taylor C-Class bracing functions with similar focus as Taylor’s V-Class bracing pattern. Meticulously crafted to summon the richest tones and most impressive projection possible from the Grand Theater, C-Class bracing stands as a unique development only to be found on a Taylor.
The Taylor GTe Blacktop
Today’s Grand Theater models introduce new tonewoods along with standby Taylor features. The GTe Blacktop presents players with an aesthetically stark look and rich tones. A spruce top is finished black with a thin, matte-coated body. Solid American walnut makes a debut in the Grand Theater line to make up the guitar’s back and sides. Together, the tonewoods create an earthy and woody tone that is warm and fills rooms comfortably. Chamfered body edges complement the matte finish for a comfortable feel in hand and across the body.
The Taylor GTe Mahogany
Contrasting the tones brought on by woody walnut, the GTe Mahogany explores another avenue of Taylor tone through the Grand Theater shape. The GTe Mahogany has a body fully constructed of solid Neo-Tropical Mahogany which causes its acoustic tones to bloom differently, though still with plenty of sweet character and impressive projection. Mahogany’s natural compression qualities as a tonewood work in tandem with Taylor’s C-Class bracing for a blossoming tonal experience while playing. A thin matte finish makes the GTe Mahogany also comfortable to hold and strum along with while chamfered body edges are also incorporated into the model for a natural feel in the arms.
The Taylor GT 611e
Taylor’s latest work with the Grand Theater culminates in a special limited-edition model. The GT 611e is a robust and refined instrument that takes the Grand Theater body style to a new level. Featuring a body crafted from solid figured Big Leaf Maple and solid Sitka spruce, the 611e radiates with a tonally warm and clear voice. A variation on the Grand Theater formula appears on this model with a Smoky West African Ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl and ivoroid Mission fret inlays. A full-gloss body makes the GT 611e visually radiant in a collection or under stage lights.
